Ex-Girlfriend of Jack Weppler Gets Back at Him with Photos on Google Images?

Jack weppler internet meme
Check out NewsOnEdge for updated details and commentary.

If you google "Jack Weppler" the result is a whole slew of pictures, allegedly of Jack Weppler, with defamatory slogans on them.

The story goes like this Weppler broke up with his girlfriend, who decided to get back at him by uploading some pictures with defamatory, but funny slogans.

Apparently, as the story goes, his mom has contacted Google to ask to fix the problem saying: “My minor son’s ex-girlfriend took a copyrighted picture of him (we own copyright) and uploaded it more than 60 times to a website. On each image she wrote slanderous, defamatory and pornographic captions.

The webmaster of the site states he removed the images 6 weeks ago, but Google Search still shows all the images. My son is so stressed out and embarrassed and we’ve done everything we can to get images off of Google including URL removal tool, a letter to Google Legal with all the URL’s because of copyright infringement, and nothing has worked!” (Sounds like a mom all right, doesn't it?)

Ugandan Elections and Democracy

Uganda election nerd

Over 14 million Ugandans, dedicated to a change in government, have come out to vote between major players, President Yoweri Museveni and Kizza Besigye, with six other candidates in the running. Museveni has been president of Uganda for 25 years and Besigye used to be his personal physician.

Africamap

Land-locked Uganda came to independence in 1962. Every change of leadership has arrived amidst violence and overthrow, such as Idi Amin in 1971 and the 20-year issue involving the Lord's Resistance Army with Joseph Kony at the helm.

Museveni is still favored for victory in the election but Besigye has stated that he will release his own tallying to counter any possibility of vote tampering and insists that Ugandans are ready to follow the footsteps of Egyptians in a revolt if the results show any sign of strangeness.

The world awaits whether Uganda can cast off it's cloak of violent political change and embrace an honest democratic win for Eastern Africa.

NASA Considering Partly Privatizing Manned MIssion to Mars

Mission to mars sale nasa science blog

Science daily:

NASA recently proposed fundraising of $160 billion from corporations in order to send astronauts to Mars. Licensing broadcast rights, making toys, movies, games, clothes etc. They even have considered selling Mars minerals.

Timothy Nelson, space law specialist from Space.com had this to say: ”I think it likely most people would find it difficult to conceive there wouldn’t be any government involvement in such a mission … The possession of a rocket alone would probably trip you up on the military regulations that govern the ownership of missile technology in the United States."

This probably sounds distasteful and vulgar to some. But when you consider the sad science and NASA related cutbacks from government, how else will a mission to Mars actually occur?

NYU Fellow, Nir Rosen's Insensitive Comments About Lara Logan's Sexual Assault in Egypt

Alg nir rosen lara logan

CBS Reporter Lara Logan's recent sexual assault in Egypt was mocked by NYU Fellow, Nir Rosen calling Logan a "warmonger" and saying she was trying to outdo Anderson Cooper and the multiple punches to the head he took in Egypt.

39-year old Logan endured a "brutal and sustained sexual assault by a mob of men while covering the Egyptian uprising." The assault was finally ended by a group of women and Egyptian soldiers. (CBS News)

Known for his extensive coverage of the Iraq War, Rosen went on a Twitter rant about Logan that caused him to resign from the University's Center on Law and Security.

"Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson," and "Yes yes it's wrong what happened to her. Of course. I don't support that. But it would have been funny if it happened to Anderson too."

"Jesus Christ, at a moment when she is going to become a martyr and glorified we should at least remember her role as a major war monger," was soon followed by, "Look, she was probably groped like thousands of other women."

Rosen eventually apologized, "Ah f--k it, I apologize for being insensitive, its always wrong, that's obvious, but I'm rolling my eyes at all the attention she will get." Then, "As someone who's devoted his career to defending victims and supporting justice, I'm very ashamed for my insensitive and offensive comments," and "I am deeply ashamed because they do not represent who i am, and i would like to convey my most heart felt apologies to Ms. Logan, her family, her friends, all women and too everyone I have hurt, angered and disappointed,"

Chevron Ordered to Pay Billions for Pollution in the Amazon

Chevron

Science Daily:

Chevron was ordered to pay $8.6 billion to plaintiffs suing them for polluting the Amazon area while exploring for energy. $10 billion more could follow. Both sums would be used to pay for cleanup and health care for Ecuadorians. Chevron also must apologize publicly within 15 days or $8.6 billion more will be added to the sum.

Actually Chevron was not the perpetrator. Not really. They "inherited" the lawsuit when they purchased Texaco in 2001.

Chevron does not, in fact, operate in Ecuador today; the American company acquired the lawsuit when it bought Texaco in 2001. Texaco started oil exploration activities with Ecuador’s state oil company Petroecuador back in 1964, and for the next three decades, the 47 plaintiffs say, the company contributed to dumping billions of gallons of waste oil in the region, causing loss of livelihood, widespread health problems and up to 1400 deaths. [TIME]

Texaco logo

Texaco paid $40 million in damages and then left Ecuador in the early 1990s. $40 million was not enough for the natives however (and rightly so).

Chevron knew about the lawsuit going in though and fought it saying that it was Petroecuador that caused most of the damage.

Chevron says they won't pay and is trying to block enforcement of the judgement and counter-sued. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Also as Chevron doesn't operate in the area anymore, the plaintiffs don't have leverage any longer. Ecuador is planning to pursue legal options in other countries.

Advisers to the plaintiffs said Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela would be obvious candidates to pursue Chevron assets, but they acknowledged it would not be easy. Venezuela, for instance, is a close Ecuadorean ally and its president, Hugo Chávez, is a frequent critic of the United States. But Chevron has extensive operations in Venezuela and enjoys warmer ties with Mr. Chávez’s government than just about any other American company. [The New York Times]

Chevron's value is almost $200 billion value (which is triple the amount of the Ecuador economy) so there's more funds to keep stalling and fighting.

I sure hope they are forced to pay, for the sake of the regions' inhabitants. But more importantly I hope they apologize and that the lawsuit sets a precedent that changes the way corporations take advantage of poorer countries.

Teacher, Natalie Munroe Trashes Other Teachers and Students in Online Blog

30-year old, Doylestown, Pennsylvania native, Natalie Munroe, a teacher at Central Bucks East High School, doesn't apologize for a blog she created that lashed out against students and teachers in general. Comments such as: "A complete and utter jerk in all ways," "although academically okay your child has no other redeeming qualities," "I hear the trash company is hiring," and "There's no other way to say this, I hate your kid." "Out of contol," and "rude, lazy, disengaged whiners." or "rat-like," "dresses like a streetwalker," and "frightfully dim."

Natalie munroe pennsylvania teacher

Munroe had a picture of herself on her blog but didn't include her last name, nor did she identify the name of the school. Munroe was suspended with pay from the school.

It never crossed Munroe's mind that someone might see the blog, "It was up there for over a year, nobody found it."

"Nothing ever changes, things are swept under the rug...sometimes things are addressed but they don't change. It's not like I was in my room typing things out and not trying to make changes where they should be made," said Munroe.

"I was writing it not about anyone specific, they were caricatures of students that I've had over the years...it was meant tongue and cheek for myself and my friends, it was not for mass consumption...I'm sorry that it was taken out of context but I stand by what I said."

Top Science Fiction Movies in 2010 (per Moviefone)

2009 was a delicious buffet of 'Moon,' 'District 9,' 'Avatar,' 'Pandorum', 'Watchmen' and 'Star Trek.' 2010? Not quite as amazing. Still check out Moviefone's tops from 2010.

10. 'Tron: Legacy' -- Awesome special effects and nostalgia coming out the yin-yang.

9. 'Predators'

8. 'Metropia' -- made in Sweden, this animated film is about mind contol in an underground society.

7. 'Splice' -- interesting throughout and definitely strange. You should go into it doubting it will be good, then you'll probably enjoy it.

6. 'The Book of Eli' -- stylish, interesting film. For me though, the hook just didn't catch.

5. 'Daybreakers' -- there are much better vampire films. But a vampire movie is still awesome because it's about vampires.

Never let me go4. 'Exam' -- a "captivating premise that manages to engage even on repeat viewings". I haven't watched this yet, but it's on my list to see. Intriguing.

3. 'Monsters' -- a low-budget (made with 3 people) alien invasion movie. It is "essentially a road movie about the miraculous-yet-mundane aftermath of an alien invasion".

2. 'Inception' -- a very awesome film. The special effects were spectacular, and the plot was definitely satisfying enough. It's been a long time since a movie actually fooled me and kept me guessing.

1. 'Never Let Me Go' -- about a beautiful English boarding school and the children in it. Once they leave the walls of their home, the truth comes out.

In Just Go With It, a plastic surgeon, romancing a much younger schoolteacher, enlists his loyal assistant to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife, in order to cover up a careless lie. When more lies backfire, the assistant's kids become involved, and everyone heads off for a weekend in Hawaii that will change all their lives. -- (C) Sony

Metacritic had a 37/100 out of 20 critics who reviewed it.

Roger Moore of the Orlando Sentinel said:

It's a rarely amusing movie overwhelmed by grating kids, unfunny sidekicks, half-hearted Sandler funny voices and a co-star who seems more fearful of smiling with each passing year.

Richmond.com had a comparitively positive review albeit with a disclaimer:

If you’re skeptical of Sandler’s standard fare, "Just Go With It" will likely be a refreshing change of pace from the luckiest man on earth’s typical sophomoric dreck. Aniston can act, Swardson steals the show by impersonating a German sheep trader, and the action moves quickly despite the two-hour running time.

So don't expect to much before going to the theatre for this one, but maybe, just maybe, it'll make February-Love-Valentine's month a little more heart-warming.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Finally Steps Down!

    Hosni mubarak resigns

    Mubarak Steps Down:

Further to the article published earlier, Hosni Mubarak, Egyptian President, has actually resigned and has handed his power to the military.

Though it was beginning to look like an impossibility, Tahrir Square is now the scene of joy, cheering, hugging and flag-waving instead of the violence, protests, anger and shouting that was common-place in the last 18 days.

"In the name of God the merciful, the compassionate, citizens, during these very difficult circumstances Egypt is going through, President Hosni Mubarak has decided to step down from the office of president of the republic and has charged the high council of the armed forces to administer the affairs of the country," said Vice President Omar Suleiman.

Valentine's Day: History, Poems and Coloring Book Printouts

    Valentines day fanpop

    Victorian valentine

Annually celebrated on February 14th, Valentine's day celebrates love and affection. It is named after early Christian martyrs and was established in 500 AD by Pope Gelasius I. It was removed as a Christian holiday in 1969 but is still tolerated widely. Modern celebration of Valentine's day includes flowers, confections and greeting cards.

It was first assoicated with romantic love by writer Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages.

In the ancient city of Rome, the observance Lupercalia, which was a rite associated with fertility occured February 13th through February 15th. Later, a more general festival called Juno Februa replaced Lupercalia though still stood for the same ideas.

Interesting to note, in modern times, the following countries have :

Saudi Arabia banned the sale of all things related to Valentines Day, which is a Christian holiday.

Pakistan's Jamaat-e-Islami called for a banning of the holiday as well.

Iran has similarly banned the sale of Valentine related items as of 2011.

Lady Gaga, "Born This Way" Lyrics:

It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
    Just put your paws up
'Cause you were Born This Way, baby

My mama told me when I was young
    We are all born superstars

She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir

"There's nothin' wrong with lovin' who you are"
She said, "'Cause he made you perfect, babe"
"So hold your head up, girl and you you'll go far,
listen to me when I say"

    I'm beautiful in my way,
    'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
    I was Born This Way

    Don't hide yourself in regret,
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby
    I was Born This Way

Ooo, there ain't no other way
Baby, I was Born This Way
Baby, I was Born This Way
    Ooo, there ain't other way
    Baby, I was Born-
I'm on the right track, baby
    I was Born This Way

Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
    Don't be!

    Give yourself prudence
    And love your friends
    Subway kid, rejoice your truth

In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my mouth

A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M (Hey, Hey, Hey)
I love my life, I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah (Love needs faith)

    I'm beautiful in my way,
    'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
    I was Born This Way

    Don't hide yourself in regret,
Just love yourself and you're set

I'm on the right track, baby
    I was Born This Way

Ooo, there ain't no other way
Baby, I was Born This Way
Baby, I was Born This Way
    Ooo, there ain't other way
    Baby, I was Born-
I'm on the right track, baby
    I was Born This Way

Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
    Don't be!

Don't be drag, just be a queen
    Whether you're broke or evergreen
You're black, white, beige, chola descent
    You're lebanese, you're orient
    Whether life's disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied or teased
    Rejoice and love yourself today
'Cause baby, you were Born This Way

No matter gay, straight or bi
    Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track, baby
    I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
    Chola or orient made
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born to be brave

    I'm beautiful in my way,
    'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
    I was Born This Way

    Don't hide yourself in regret,
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby
    I was Born This Way

I was Born This Way, hey!
I was Born This Way, hey!
I'm on the right track, baby

Yesha Callahan is the Woman at the Heart of the New York Congressman Chris Lee-Craigslist Debacle

University of Maryland faculty member and single mom, Yesha Callahan, whose "women seeking men" ad last month sparked married New York Congressman Chris Lee to post his shirtless picture to Craigslist, is the woman who contacted Gawker, thus "outing" Lee.

When Lee asked her for a revealing pic in return, Callahan, who already had found out he was married,

    contacted Gawker.

"I assumed that other people have probably come across him as well, and he had lied to them. I felt annoyance at just the audacity of people thinking that they're not going to get found out when they are lying." Callahan said.

President Mubarak Leaves Cairo for Resort City of Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

    Sharm el sheikh

Just a day after transferring some power to Vice President Omar Suleiman, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has temporarily fled Cairo to resort city Sharm El Sheikh, to lessen protests in Tahrir Square.

Mubarak flees cairo sharm el sheikh

Taped in advance, Mubarak apparently left immediately after his speech last night, which was taped in advance. As his speech did not show him giving in to demands, protests and anger flared up yet again.

Instead of an announcement that he was leaving office, he announced he would transfer unspecified power to Vice President Omar Suleiman and, as he had stated earlier, remain president until the September.

VP Omar Suleiman is also disliked among the people due to his close ties to Mubarak, but even the Egyptian military supported Mubarak's announcement.

Terry McCarthy of CBS News reported that "some of the biggest crowds Cairo has ever seen" were then gathering in Tahrir Square.
