Beating out the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co, Boeing was awarded the $35 billion Pentagon aerial refueling tanker contract. The planes will be built in Kansas and in Washington State.
Boeing president Kim McNerney said that they were ready "to apply our 60 years of tanker experience to develop and build an airplane that will serve the nation for decades to come".
The contract could billow to $100 billion if the Air Force decides to have more made and it is expected to create approximately 48,000 jobs across the United States. The first 18 tankers (of 179) are to be delivered by 2017.
