Just a day after transferring some power to Vice President Omar Suleiman, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has temporarily fled Cairo to resort city Sharm El Sheikh, to lessen protests in Tahrir Square.

Taped in advance, Mubarak apparently left immediately after his speech last night, which was taped in advance. As his speech did not show him giving in to demands, protests and anger flared up yet again.

Instead of an announcement that he was leaving office, he announced he would transfer unspecified power to Vice President Omar Suleiman and, as he had stated earlier, remain president until the September.

VP Omar Suleiman is also disliked among the people due to his close ties to Mubarak, but even the Egyptian military supported Mubarak's announcement.

Terry McCarthy of CBS News reported that "some of the biggest crowds Cairo has ever seen" were then gathering in Tahrir Square.
